I have just finished a tour of Guatemala and have just arrived in Costa Rica for another tour. As the title says, Guatemala is full of colour with peaceful, laid back people and a cuisine that is riddled with garlic and onions – my two biggest triggers. I waved my laminated card which stated my aversion to those two food items in every restaurant we visited and it worked but I ended up with bland food. But, if a choice is to be made between bland food and a peaceful gut or tasty food and a painful, bloated gut, then I will choose the former every time.
Here are some photos to help you get a feel for the country. They are a bit out of order but the captions explain what they are.

Thank you for the photos! I don’t get to see Guatemala photos every day and it looks rich in history and nature. The colorful cemetery markers were a nice twist. Perhaps indicative of the different ways we view this end stage of life around the world. Yes, I have found that bland is better too sometimes to avoid bad side effects. I toured SF yesterday to do a sneak preview of your coming attractions. Have a great trip.

I do sometimes wish I could eat the enchiladas or nachos, but I resist. I like the idea of the sneak preview.

Suzanne, thanks a lot for the pictures. What a wonderful journey! Enjoy all the beautiful places you visit. Ourselves, we like cruising more, and with my condition it is the safest way to travel, our longest cruise was 2 months and I felt fine. But you prove that other ways of travel are not to be excluded t00 :-).
KInd regards, Lily

Travelling can be risky but if you take precautions, it is fine. Cruising is good for IBS.

For those of us that don’t get to travel much, it is a real treat to get to see the places you are visiting. Thanks for sharing!
Suzanne Perazzini says
You can travel vicariously through me, Mary. I will have photos of Costa Rica too next week.

Suzanne, I don’t know if you drove or rode thru Nicaragua, but if you did and looked to your left , you’d see Ometepe Island, where I spend my winters. I didn’t know you were travelling in CA. How exciting! Lisa

Dear Suzanne, many thanks for the lovely pictures from Guatemala. What a beautiful country.
Thank you for all your emails and sorry for not responding much. I’am not into face book or twitter very much, I find these too complicated. I do appreciate emails you send to me with a lot of useful information.
Thanks again.
Kind regards,
Vera
Suzanne Perazzini says
You are welcome, Vera. I am glad you find the emails useful.

I am now in Costa Rica and it is a lot hotter but hopefully I will have a calm gut here as well.

Hello! I was wondering if you came across any Low FODMAP meals while in Antigua? I’m looking at vacationing there but worried about my food options.
Suzanne Perazzini says
That holiday was a few years back but what I remember was that the food was pretty simple. I think I ate a lot of chicken and potatoes.
