We celebrated my mother’s 87th birthday on Sunday at a beautiful restaurant with cake/dessert afterwards at her home. I thought I would share a couple of photos of the day. I chose eggs Benedict for my lunch meal because it was low Fodmap except for the buns underneath but I can tolerate a certain amount of wheat so it was fine. My niece, Dana, made the lemon meringue pie as the birthday cake and it was delicious. Again it was low Fodmap except for the pastry. Naturally we can only have a small amount because of the sugar content but my tummy was calm afterwards so I gauged it well. As you can see there is no need to miss out on the pleasure of food if you choose wisely. I am sure I could have asked for gluten-free buns at the restaurant if I had wanted to.
Congratulations to you mother on her birthday. I enjoyed reading about the celebration. I have a neighbor who makes lemon merique pie for her husband’s birthday as he prefers it to cake.
It’s one of my favourite desserts and I am so glad I can still eat some of it.
DEar Suzanne, HAve you tried Pavlova? it is a meringue dessert with some whipped cream and berries- delicious. I already understood that I can eat meringue which I love too, and I order it where there is a possibility.

Pavlova is our national dish here in New Zealand. There is always one at every get-together. It is low Fodmap in smallish amounts because it is high in sugar.
Suzanne, your mother looks fantastic, at least 10 years younger than her age. I can see where you get your beauty from!
