There is much confusion around whether we can eat sourdough bread on the low Fodmap diet for irritable bowel syndrome. There is no simple yes or no answer because it depends on how it was made and what the ingredients are. Watch my video to find out how to eat sourdough bread safely on the diet. This information and much, much more is included in my book, The Low Fodmap 6-Week Plan and Cookbook, which is available in all good bookstores and online. Transcription of Sourdough Bread for IBS Today I want to talk to you about sourdough bread. I get a lot of questions about this, and there is some confusion surrounding it. Traditional sourdough bread should really only contain three ingredients - flour, water, and salt. And it should not have any added yeast or enzymes. Certainly not any preservatives or emulsifiers or additives to speed up the baking process. Not for us. I mean, it doesn't matter for someone else, but it matters for us with IBS. The traditional sourdough bread is … [Read more...] about Can we eat Sourdough bread on the Low FODMAP Diet?
Label Reading while Low FODMAP Shopping
If you are on the low Fodmap diet for irritable bowel syndrome, you are probably completely confused when you go shopping, especially if the food comes in a box or packet with all sorts of ingredients, many of which don’t sound like food. If that is the case, the best thing to do is to put it back on the shelf because processed foods contain additives that are gut irritants and so can hurt us. In this video, I help you to identify some of the most common culprits to avoid. This information is also included in my book, The Low Fodmap 6-Week Plan and Cookbook, which is available in all good bookstores and online. Transcription of Video: Today I want to give you a little bit of guidance when you go shopping, and you pick up a product, and you look at the ingredients list, and you don't really know what you're looking at. Do you feel like your bowels haven’t emptied after a toilet visit?
The urge comes for a toilet visit and you trot off because you know it's inadvisable to resist the urge. You sit down and something comes out but it doesn't feel quite right. Surely there is something more in there but your body has stopped pushing. It feels really uncomfortable, and so you continue pushing, hoping for more success but still nothing and now you have been on the toilet for 30 minutes and you need to pick up the kids. Stop Visiting Your Doctor for IBS!
This cycle of visits to doctors, GIs, nutritionists and naturopaths has to stop at some point. I did it for decades but nothing ever changed and, in fact, I got worse over the years. We have a solution, and it’s not more medication or tests. The Low FODMAP Diet has been scientifically proven to significantly improve symptoms in 75% of IBS sufferers. And of the other 25%, many don’t succeed due to non-compliance or lack of knowledge. See this article I wrote HERE about that. So once you have been tested for other possible health issues like Celiac disease and inflammatory bowel diseases, STOP with the endless round of dead-end visits and knuckle down to doing the diet. Yes, it is complex and difficult. But anything worth doing is not going to be a breeze. AND you need SUPPORT. Going it alone just leads to disappointment because this diet is so much more than a list of foods. Do it ONCE and do it RIGHT, so you can get on with life. Take the Tiger by the Tail
A couple of weeks ago, I revealed the main reason that research has shown the low Fodmap diet fails - NON-COMPLIANCE here. Or, as I added, lack of knowledge on how to implement the diet. Thinking you are doing it right but making mistakes unwittingly. You will never conquer it by yourself because you are completely unaware that you are doing anything wrong, and you blame the diet. I have already done this for hundreds and hundreds of clients, and now I am once again opening the doors to the two-week Low Fodmap Diet Formula workshop. These two weeks will revolutionize your life. I know you’ve been struggling with getting your IBS under control and working out this low Fodmap diet, so this workshop is going to get you sorted once and for all. All you need to do this course is a device of some kind so you can receive emails. If you are not able to attend any of the live sessions, they are all recorded so you can listen to them in your own time. So you … [Read more...] about Take the Tiger by the Tail
