I have seen several bars like these on the various food blogs I visit and today I decided to make them. Unfortunately I chose the recipe from a blog that had it completely wrong. I had to make adjustments all the way through, even doubling the quantities in two of the layers of the recipe because it was obvious that there wasn’t enough to cover even a smallish baking dish. I had to put them in the fridge after baking them to firm up the mixture enough to be able to cut them. They turned out looking pretty ugly but they taste good and I guess that is the important thing at the end of the day. The base is made of oreo biscuits and butter which is why it is so dark. Then there is a cheesecake layer with cream cheese, eggs, sugar, melted choclate and vanilla. On top was a cookie dough mixture, which could have been better. The problem is that I mucked around with the recipe so much that I have no idea of quantities so I can’t give you the recipe. So sorry.

Well, they caught my eye on FoodGawker so they really aren’t as ‘ugly’ as you say and yes, the taste test is the most important factor. Sorry you didn’t like them as much but thanks for your honesty! I know what you mean; the internet is rife with not-so-good recipes so it can be hard to find a tried and true one.
Nice blog though.
Happy Baking!

Thanks, Candy. I have kept them in the fridge and they have performed well. We are enjoying them but I suspect the kilos are going on.

Always double-check recipe before giving it a shot. I always check at least 6-7 websites for authentic recipe before making one. It’s a shame the recipe didn’t come up to your expectations but the photo is amazing. Drooling for a bite*

Yes, I must check better from now on. I think I might go back to using cookbooks and some time honoured recipes for the baking. It’s just too delicate a balance of ingredients with baking and too easy to get it wrong. I’m eating one right now post-dinner and they sure taste good.

Aww that’s to bad they were kinda frustrating to make, but they look delicious. Baking really is a science, and I have messed it up many times before. It’s annoying especially when you think of all the ingredients wasted, but it sounds and looks like you managed to salvage it well enough. I still would love to eat them:)

Oh yes, Alessandra, they were still delicious but it taught me a lesson not to blindly accept that all recipes on food blogs have been tested. She must have taken the photos from another site and created her idea of what the recipe would be but not tested it.

I really love cheesecakes. They are sinfully delicious! Even though cheesecakes will surely increase my cholesterol level, I’ll still eat it. Yesterday, while I was strolling at the mall, I’ve seen a shop selling wholesale Desserts at a low price. I bought three boxes of cheesecakes for myself. I’ve seen a vanilla cheesecake too, but there are no cherries and peaches on top of it. I want to try your vanilla cheesecake too. Where did you buy your birthday cheesecake?

I’ve never seen chocolate cheesecake bars before. It’s not ugly for me, it really looks delicious. It looks like a sliced oatmeal cake. Last Christmas, I bought oatmeal cakes at a wholesale Bakery near our house and gave it to my friends.

I have since found other recipes on blogs that don’t work but in those cases I wasn’t able to pull them back and they got binned. At least this one was edible in the end.
