Last week my Uncle Jock and his wife, Alma, from Zambia came to New Zealand for two weeks after a 23-year absence. It has been wonderful to see them again and we had them over to dinner last night for the second time and I took a few terrible photos so I have only included a couple. At the bottom of this post, there is a photo of the main course I made for them and the group at the table. There was a lot of laughter and constant chatter so it was hard to get everyone still for a good photo. The blurry mess on the right is my uncle and that’s Dario laughing at him with Adriano next to him. Alma is on the left. Yes, that’s the best photo I took.
The first photo above is my uncle’s fishing lodge in Zambia. He has created a paradise on earth but now he has decided to sell it. We visited there eleven years ago and loved the place. The lodge is built on a hill overlooking the Zambezi River and is situated on his privately owned game farm which is fully fenced.
It is called Tiger Mile Lodge because of the Tiger fish that inhabit the river in that area. The property is 3100 + hectares (7660 acres) in size with approximately 30 kms of game fencing (2.5 metre tall with 17 strands of 2.24 mm high tensile fencing wire), including 5 kms of Zambezi River frontage.
If anyone is interested in any more information on this property, I have an information pack I can send you. Please get in touch with me through the contact form on this blog. You can also see more HERE.
The recipe for our main course can be found here.

Sounds like you had a great time! Group photos are hard to take – among other things, I think it must be a law that at least one person has blinked and has their eyes closed!
Suzanne says
We had a fabulous time, John. There is nothing like getting together with your favourite family members.

Lovely to see the family photo. It looks so full of life and like everyone is having the best of times. I love the look of the sanctuary in Zambezi. And I would love to buy it but sadly I must count myself out. It looks like a great place to go for a holiday. And what a beautiful looking dinner your created – such a work of art! xx
Suzanne says
It was a very rowdy evening filled with laughter.
I was very pleased with my main dish – I love it when the food looks as good as it tastes.

Hi Suzanne,
I was Gillian McIntosh from Te Toro, and I have just googled Tiger Mile Lodge to see if Jock and Alma had finally sold. It appears they havent as yet, and found your wonderful notes and photos.
I knew that they had come back to NZ briefly as they had had a flying visit to Waiuku with your Uncle Joe to see Irene Luhrs. I am in frequent contact with her as she was my mothers first cousin.
( I was a flowergirl at her wedding as your sister Janet was supposed to be also but was unwell) Our family still have extremely fond memories of Aunty Vide and Uncle Alan and I hope all your families are well.
Take care, Gillian
Stuart Watson says
Hi Suzanne, not sure if you remember me, from NZ days. I just saw this because Alma suggested I have a look. I get there every couple of years and was just there in Jan. I tried to list it for them a few years back – no luck. Regards, Stuart Watson, KY/USA.
Suzanne Perazzini says
Hi Stuart. Yes, I definitely remember you and see your mother from time to time. I have just created a separate website for them and hope it starts to get a bit of SEO traction but I have 3 backlinks from my site to theirs which should help since mine is very visible to Google. I have had several inquiries over the years from my mentions of the Zambian farm and hope their new site gets results too. It would be really good to see them sell. Back at the beginning I listed it with 3 real estate agencies and again with a couple about a year ago. Things move very slowly over there.

Helgo Kahle says
Hi Suzanne,
I am of African farming stock and am currently looking at Zambia for a possible investment. Before taking any further steps w.r.t. your uncle’s farm I should like to establish whether his farm on the Zambezi is still on the market and whether I could contact him directly or need to deal through an agent. It has been marketed by several agents on the net for a while now.
Kind regards
Helgo
Helgo Kahle says

I have recently sent an email to your aunt and uncle about the farm but have not received a response. Maybe I have their address wrong. Would you mind sending it to me again.
